DWI Education Class (12-Hour DWIE Class – First Time Offender)

In Texas, DUI and DWI are not the same, though they both involve impaired driving. Here’s the key difference:

• DUI (Driving Under the Influence): This charge applies specifically to minors (those under the legal drinking age of 21). Texas has a zero-tolerance policy, meaning any detectable amount of alcohol in a minor’s system while driving is illegal.

• DWI (Driving While Intoxicated): This charge applies to adults aged 21 and over. It involves driving with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher, or being impaired by drugs or a combination of alcohol and drugs.

Additional Considerations:

• Penalties: DWI charges in Texas generally carry more severe penalties than DUI charges.
• Terminology: While the legal terms are distinct, many people use “DUI” and “DWI” interchangeably in casual conversation.

1. Approval: Not all online courses may be recognized by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) or by the court handling your case. It’s crucial to choose a program that is state-approved. The online DWI/DUI class offered by Texas Court Classes is fully certified by TDLR (License #653)
2. Type of Course: Texas typically requires different types of programs for DUI/DWI offenders, such as:

• A 12-hour DWI education program for first-time offenders.
• A 32-hour DWI intervention program for repeat offenders or those with a significant alcohol or drug dependency.
• A minor in possession (MIP) or alcohol awareness program for underage individuals charged with DUI.

1. Court Requirements: The court may have specific stipulations regarding the format of the course, especially if the offense involves certain aggravating factors or if the individual has a history of similar offenses.
2. Completion and Documentation: Successfully completing the course and providing the court or the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) with proper documentation is crucial. Failure to do so may result in additional penalties or the inability to have your driving privileges reinstated.

Texas Court Classes offers a DWI Education (DWIE) class intended for those who have been convicted as first-time offenders of driving while intoxicated (DWI) and who have had their license suspended. 

In many jurisdictions, including Texas, courts may require you to complete a program as part of your sentence or probation requirements. If you’re a first-time offender, a DWIE/DUI class might be necessary to reinstate your license and driving privileges.

Our DWIE class will teach the history of DWI, effects of alcohol and drugs on driving ability, Texas criminal and civil laws around DWIs, resources to assist with getting help, what happens when we drink, and absorption of alcohol and use of a blood alcohol content (BAC) calculator.

The days for the DWIE class are broken down as follows:

1. Day 1: Introduction, alcohol/drug traffic safety and problems
2. Day 2: Effects of alcohol/drugs on driving
3. Day 3: Alcohol/drug abuse and dependence
4. Day 4: Personal actions to avoid future DWI behavior and evaluation

There are many benefits and advantages in taking a DWI/DUI class online compared to an in-person class.

The online DWI class will be live on Zoom. The DWI Education class is 12 hours and is held on three consecutive days (sessions one, two, and three). Each class session is four hours in length, and you cannot make up days. If you miss a day of class, you will have to start over again on a different day and pay a new registration fee.

Online DWI/DUI classes costs $125. When selecting an online DWI/DUI class make sure it is certified by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). While all DWI/DUI classes offered by Texas Court Classes are TDLR certified some of the classes sold online are not TDLR certified. 

Texas Court Classes will email you & DPS (if needed) your DWI/DUI certificate within 5 business of completion.

 Texas Court Classes will mail you and DPS a paper certificate of completion within 5-10 days after you’ve successfully finished your class. If you need your certificate sooner, we will rush mail it to you within 24 hours for $20. 

Yes! Texas Court Classes’ programs are approved and fully certified by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Texas court system. The DWIE class is approved for any court-ordered DWI classes in Texas. (License #653, expires September 14, 2024.)

Yes, but for the final examination on the last day of class, you must have a secondary device. You will need to be visibly present with your camera on while taking the exam.

If your class hasn’t started yet, you can reschedule to another class time. If you miss sessions from a class you’ve already begun, you will be disenrolled and will have to re-enroll in another class.

There are no refunds except if Texas Court Classes cancels your class on our end. If you miss a day of a class you have scheduled, you will be disenrolled and it will be your responsibility to re-enroll yourself.

We are 100% confident that your judge and/or probation officer will 100% accept your Texas Court Classes Certificate.

If you sign up for the correct course, complete it, receive your certificate, and submit it on time, but the court or probation officer does not accept your Texas Court Classes certificate, let us know with evidence before 30 days. We will try to discuss the situation with the court or probation officer first to get you a resolution, and if they still don’t accept the certificate, we will issue a full refund.
